Anhyzer Shot

The anhyzer shot in disc golf is a throwing technique where the body is tilted backwards making the release angle of the disc tilted right for right-handed players or to the left for left-handed players. Using a normal flat release, the backwards tilt of the body causes the disc to curve to the right (for right-handed players) or to the left (for left-handed players) in flight. The anhyzer is typically used for shots that require the disc to turn to the right on holes where the basket is setup on the right side. The anhyzer shot is also useful for shaping shots around obstacles.

To throw an anhyzer shot, players should first start with the proper grip and stance. The power grip is the most common grip for this shot, where the disc is held with the fingers wrapped around the rim and the thumb on the top of the flight plate. The player should stand with their feet shoulder-width apart and point their foot slightly forward. The player should also bend their knees slightly and keep their weight on the back foot.xt, the player should tilt your body slightly backwards – wrist angle should be in a flat normal throwing position. The angle of the body will create the angle necessary for the disc to curve. The player should then bring the disc behind their back and bring it forward with a fluid motion. The arm should be fully extended at the point of release, with the disc tilted slightly upward to generate lift.

It’s important to release the disc at the correct angle, if the disc is released too flat, it will not turn like an anhyzer. If it’s released too steep, it will turn too much and the disc could turn into a roller or land very short. Another consideration when throwing an anhyzer shot is the wind. It is much more difficult to throw accurate anhyzer shots in the wind compared to throwing a hyzer shot in the wind.

To improve with the anhyzer shot, players should practice throwing in an open field and releasing the disc at different angles with the degree of their body tilt. Throwing at various amounts of power and trying different discs can help you get a feel for what works best. Distance and flight patterns can vary significantly for different discs, and you will find it easier to throw anhyzer shots using understable discs.

Time and practice are needed to consistently thow an accurate anhyzer shot, but with experience the anhyzer shot can be one of the most advantageous shots to use on the course. Releasing a disc on an anhyzer when using overstable and understable discs will produce different shot shapes.
